TV presenter Piers Morgan has heaped the praise on the Princess Royal, following the death of her mother, the Queen, on Thursday. Piers, 57, shared a touching tribute to the late monarch's only daughter, Princess Anne, on Twitter on Sunday as he posted a picture of her driving in a car behind the hearse carrying her mother's coffin.
The pain was clear to see on the princess' face, as the vehicle drove to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. And the former Good Morning Britain presenter praised the royal for being "selfless" over the years, reports the Mirror.
He said: "Princess Anne is being driven in a car behind her mother’s hearse for six hours from Balmoral to Edinburgh, grief etched on her face. Anne never gets enough credit for her own selfless devotion to duty & decorum. Like the late Queen, she represents the very best of royalty."
And the straight-talking star, who often causes huge splits with his comments, was met with an abundance of support in response to his words.
One user wrote: "A rare occasion where I 100 per cent agree with you," while another commented: "You can tell how upset they all are. You can see that either Anne is crying or has been. Anyone who has lost a parent or any loved one knows how horrible it is. But being part of the royal family where you can’t show sadness in public I want to hug them all xx"
Piers' comments came as the hearse which contained the Queen's coffin headed through Scottish towns and cities, including Aberdeen and Perth. Princess Anne was accompanied in the car by her husband, Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.
As the hearse continued its journey, well-wishers flagged both sides of the roads before the coffin arrived at St Giles' Cathedral. It is expected that hundreds of thousands of mourners are expected to pay their respects over four days before September 19's state funeral.
The funeral itself will take place inside the Abbey, where Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip in 1947 before being coronated six years later in 1953.
Piers, an avid royalist, has been very vocal in the days since the Queen's death. Following the new king's first public speech, he said: "That was a great speech by a good man. The Queen is dead…. Long live The King!", and also shared a screenshot of a teary-eyed King making his speech.
