A man who drove from Fallowfield to dump rubbish in a Salford street has been branded "selfish" and utterly irresponsible by council bosses.
Ghulam Ahmadzai, of Aston Avenue, was caught on CCTV dumping a large cushion, a trampoline mat and other waste from his Mercedes van just after 2pm on May 30 last year.
Manchester Magistrates' Court heard that despite the pandemic, all 20 household waste disposal sites across Greater Manchester were open – and the closest Manchester site was just over four miles away from Ahmadzai’s home. He was traced through his car registration plate and admitted he had dumped the rubbish on Cambridge Street in Salford.

Ahmadzai appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday (September 22) and pleaded guilty to one offence of illegally dumping waste on land at Cambridge Street, Salford, contrary to the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £1,100 costs and £40 victim surcharge.
Speaking after the case Councillor Barbara Bentham, lead member for environment and community safety, said: “It’s beyond comprehension why anyone would choose to drive a car loaded with rubbish to a Salford street, rather than to a tip closer to his home.
"There is no excuse for anyone to throw rubbish in the street and expect the taxpayers of Salford to fund cleaning up their mess when it could have been taken to one of 20 different household waste sites.
“Salford City Council receives more than 5,000 reports of fly-tipping annually and spends over £450,000 a year on dealing with the problem.”
