Selena Gomez is set to show her vulnerable side as she shares her personal struggles during her new documentary.
Gomez has been in the spotlight for most of her life having been a child star on Disney before becoming a global pop superstar and esteemed actress but that does not mean it has been easy for the 30-year-old multi-faceted star.
The AppleTV+ documentary titled My Mind and Me sees Gomez let in the cameras over a six-year period where she has reached those eye watering highs but also crushing lows as she bares all to give fans a glimpse of her private life.
The trailer for the feature length film directed by Alek Keshishian, who is best known for his 1991 film Madonna: Truth or Dare which was the highest grossing documentary of all time for 11 years and is also the brother of Gomez's manager Aleen, saw the singer-turned-actress shed many tears as she battles against her mental health struggles.
It is set for release on the streaming platform on Friday, November 4, with the former Wizard of Waverly Place star sharing the trailer on her social media accounts on Tuesday evening.
Alongside the 30-second clip, she wrote: "My Mind & Me. We don't get a long sometimes and it gets hard to breathe... But I wouldn't change my life." The post garnered over 1.4 million likes on Instagram.
The documentary will factor in many of those ups and downs over her career, including the public break-up with Justin Bieber in 2013, and when she was checked into The Meadows rehabilitation centre the following year.
It was at about this time when Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus and in 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant from fellow actress and close friend Francia Raisa. It is reported that during the transplant, an artery "broke" and emergency surgery was needed to rebuild one from a vein in Gomez's leg.
The singer and actress has been an advocate for being open about her anxiety and depression, and she founded the Rare Impact Fund in 2020 to help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and improve access to such services.
One example of her openness was when she admitted that she "freaked out" after reaching 100 million and became the most followed person on Instagram. This resulted in a three-year hiatus from the social media platform, where she now has 346 million followers.
She won the 2019 McClean Award in September for talking openly and promoting mental wellbeing and health before in April 2020, Gomez revealed she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Gomez is the executive producer of hit TV shows 13 Reasons Why and as well as leading actress in mystery comedy-drama Only Murders in the Building, the latter in which she won Best Actress in a Streaming Series, Comedy at the Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards among many others.
