Sega is releasing a Sonic Frontiers’ digital comic to tell the first part of the hedgehog’s upcoming adventure before the game itself releases on Nov. 8, 2022. The comic is officially called Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Convergence and will debut on Sega’s Twitter page on Oct. 18, 2022, and the publisher said in a follow-up tweet that a Convergence animated special is also in the works.
Convergence is the first of a two-part prologue, though Sega didn’t mention when it will make the second half available.
Writer Ian Flynn crafted the prologue’s narrative, which seemingly tells what happens to Sonic’s friends Amy, Knuckles, and Tails, before Sonic himself winds up stranded alone in a dangerous land. Flynn’s previous credits include Sonic Origins and Sonic Forces, which also had its own comic prequel, and Flynn has worked on Archie Comics and some DC properties as well.

Evan Stanley is the artist behind Convergence’s line art. Stanley also worked on Archie Comics previously and has a portfolio of Sega-related work on Deviantart.
Whether Super Sonic makes an appearance in Convergence is up in the air, but the golden ‘hog will play a much bigger role in Frontiers proper than he usually does in Sonic games, Sega said previously.
