WITH many set to celebrate Hogmanay, supermarkets remain open for anyone looking to do a bit of last-minute shopping or party planning.
However, they do tend to operate at different hours, similar to those over the Christmas period.
Stores are often not open at the times many are used to so here’s a look at when they are if you’re looking for some last-minute essentials.
Aldi
Aldi will be closing early on New Year’s Eve with stores operating from 8am to 6pm. They will be shut on New Year’s Day before normal service resumes on January 2.
Lidl
Lidl will also operate at different hours with stores across Scotland open from 8am to 7pm. Like Aldi, all stores in Scotland will be shut on January 1 before opening again on January 2.
Asda
The opening hours of Asda stores depends on the size and location, although the majority are open from 7am to 7pm on Hogmanay.
Shoppers are advised to check the precise opening times for local stores on Asda's website.
Tesco
Like Asda, opening times will vary depending on the store you are visiting. On Hogmanay, Tesco Extra stores and superstores will close at 7pm although it is worth checking individual branches.
For New Year’s Day, superstores will open from 8am to 6pm.
Sainsbury’s
Larger Sainsbury’s stores will be open from 10am to 7pm on December 31 while convenience stores are open from 9am to 6pm.
On January 1, supermarkets are open from 10am to 7pm and convenience stores from 6am to 9pm.
M&S
M&S will operate on reduced hours on December 31 and will close to the public on New Year’s Day.
It said almost 400 of its stores would be open from 9am to 7pm on Hogmanay but advised customers to check the hours of their local store via the app or website.
Morrisons
Most Morrisons supermarkets will be open from 9am to 6pm on December 31 although this may vary for smaller stores.
