Secunderabad Cantonment legislator G. Lasya Nanditha, 37, died in a road crash on the Outer Ring Road Patancheru, here in the early hours of February 23.

Nanditha died on the spot before she could be shifted for an emergency. Visuals from the accident scene showed the victim suffered a severe head injury.
‘The driver had fallen asleep while driving’
The SP of Sangareddy Police, Ch. Rupesh said that the MLA was heading towards Patancheru from Medchal on Friday morning. The crash was reported at around 5.30 a.m. about three kilometres after Sultanpur limits in Patancheru, said the official. “As per the statement of Akash, the driver/PA of the MLA, it was dark and foggy in the morning hours and that he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. He said the next thing he saw was the injured body of the MLA,” said the official.
The vehicle, an SUV with a temporary registration number, was severely damaged in the front.
Officials from the Patancheru police said that the MLA had her seat belt on. “However, the impact was such that she sustained severe head injuries and succumbed. We have roped in the RTA authorities to inspect the vehicle and shed more light on the accident,” said the officials.
The Patancheru Police have registered a case under section 304 (death by negligence) of the IPC following a complaint filed by the MLA’s sister Niveditha on Friday. Patancheru police officials said that a detailed probe into the case will shed light on the exact cause of mishap and arrests will be made.
The crash reportedly was because of the high speed at which the vehicle was moving. No other vehicle was involved. The SUV was found crashed into the extreme left metal railing of the ORR.
Lasya escaped an accident 10 days ago
Nanditha, daughter of former longtime Cantonment legislator G. Sayanna, is a first-time legislator elected from the Bharata Rashtra Samithi.
The young legislator escaped a near-miss accident on the Narketpally-Addanki State Highway on the outskirts of Nalgonda town on February 13, when she was returning to Hyderabad, after the party’s mega meet in that town. A home guard from Narketpally police station was killed in that crash.
The autopsy of the MLA was performed at the Gandhi Hospital morgue, where the coroner confirmed that the death was due to severe injuries to the head.
The Telangana government has decided to accord state funeral with police honours to the deceased MLA.
