With all the chaos of travelling in recent weeks when it comes to queues, cancellations and baggage issues, the last thing you want is to get a bad seat on the flight.
Whether it’s down to feeling cramped, or whether you can’t see any of the views, we all have our preferences that could make or break the journey.
A Ryanair insider has shared the top tips when it comes to seat hacks that you “need to know now”.

For the views
If you’re someone who loves getting a photo for your Instagram account, it’s important to book the right rows to capture the best picture possible.
“You know the one with the perfect pinky-blue sky, fluffy clouds and otherworldly rays of sunlight, all framed by a cheeky wing peeking out from the corner. Then, there’s that spectacular aerial shot of the city lit up by millions of tiny lights,” a post on the Ryanair website said.
In order to secure these views - and as a result, the photos - make sure to book between rows 15 and 18.
For a snooze
There is just one seat on board Ryanair aircrafts that is the golden location for those who want to get that bit more sleep as you travel. Even as the sun comes up, this one seat will keep you in the dark.
The post said: “Not a lot of people realise that seat 11A has no window, meaning it’s the perfect seat if you’re planning to catch up on some zzzs during a morning flight.”
To be first served
Having to wait for the refreshments cart to travel up to you can often be frustrating and, if you’re in the window seat, awkward to have to keep an eye out for it.
Luckily, there are some rows that will guarantee you first pick of the snacks and beverages, without the wait.
Row 33 at the back and rows 1 or 2 at the front will give you a head start on everyone else.
To ease the nerves
Travelling with a family can be stressful, especially if there are young children involved. You have to pack their bags, make sure they have something to entertain them for the long journey and make sure they’re fed.
To avoid the added hassle of keeping an eye on the kids from afar, booking seats altogether is essential. According to the post on the airline’s website, the Family Plus option includes two 20kg checked-in bags, one 10kg carry-on per passenger, as well as free seat selection for the children.
When you’re with your friends
Travelling with your pals can sometimes just be for a weekend away. However, when it’s a group of over 20 people, it usually means that you are celebrating something. Hens dos, stag parties, big birthdays or even an away match are all valid occasions to make a fuss about.
Make sure you reserve your seats altogether as a pack through a group booking. You will be glad of it!
When you’re at the journey’s end
Sometimes, there is no time to wait around. If you’re in a rush to get to your destination, there are certain seats that can guarantee a quick exit. Avoid the passport control or baggage rush.
“Plan ahead and book a seat in rows 1 A, B, C or 2 D, E, F to make sure you’re first on and first off the flight.
“This seating arrangement is also perfect for anyone who makes a habit of forgetting to use the bathroom before the seatbelt sign comes on. And we all know one of those,” The advice from Ryanair said.
Finally, for the extra legroom
Sitting on a flight for any amount of time can make you stiff - let alone if it’s a few hours.
No one wants to be crammed into the row, but very few know the perfect seats to book to ensure extra legroom.
“If you’re blessed with long legs, or you just want as much space as possible to sprawl out during a flight, treat yourself to one of the roomier seats in rows 16 and 17,” the insider’s post said.
