A statue which hundreds of people walk past everyday has a secret importance.
The Nelson Monument is a monument to Admiral Horatio Nelson, in Exchange Flags in the city centre. It was designed by Matthew Cotes Wyatt and sculpted by Richard Westmacott.
It was unveiled in 1813 and was one of Liverpool's first major public statues. However, many people getting a bite to eat, walking to work or to Moorfields station will be forgiven for thinking this monument was only a statue and not one that has a hidden feature.
