Among patients who lost vision from an optic nerve stroke in both eyes, those taking GLP-1 drugs were more likely to have the second eye affected within six months. The analysis was released by the American Academy of Ophthalmology on October 6.
The finding is an association, not proof that the drugs caused faster vision loss. GLP-1 users in the study also had higher blood sugar, and according to the release, more severe diabetes rather than the drugs themselves may account for some or all of the difference.
