Police are resuming for the third day their search for a Swedish student believed to have been swept into the water off Sydney.

Reports suggest 20-year-old Noa Sage fell from a height of about seven metres onto rocks at Blue Fish Point at Manly's North Head about 5.30pm on Wednesday before ending up in the water.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command, along with the Marine Area Command and surf lifesavers, searched the area.

Police confirmed to AAP on Friday another attempt to locate the foreign national is under way.

The search was initially suspended late on Wednesday night before resuming on Thursday and Friday with aerial help from PolAir.
