The search for the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has expanded beyond New York City, with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest and conviction, in addition to the $10,000 reward from the NYPD.
The gunman, who ambushed Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel, used a fake ID and paid cash during his 10-day stay in the city. He kept his face covered, except when checking in at a hostel, where he briefly revealed his face to an employee.
The suspect arrived in New York City on a Greyhound bus from Atlanta and stayed at the HI New York City Hostel. He was captured on surveillance cameras at various locations in Manhattan, allowing police to track his movements.
On the morning of the shooting, the suspect left the hostel before dawn and was seen walking near the Hilton hotel where the UnitedHealth Group's annual investor conference was taking place. He shot Thompson as the executive arrived at the hotel and then fled the scene.
The suspect was later spotted entering Central Park on a bicycle and discarding a gray backpack. He was seen at several locations in the city before eventually boarding a taxi near the George Washington Bridge.
Investigators found words written on ammunition at the scene that mimic a phrase used by insurance industry critics. Police believe the gunman left the city on a bus but have not located video footage of his departure.
Despite recovering a fingerprint and sending items for DNA testing, the suspect remains unidentified. Police continue to search Central Park, with scuba divers scouring a pond for evidence.
