Sean Penn honoured in Ukraine with Iron Oscar after missing awards ceremony

  • Sean Penn won his third Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in One Battle After Another but was absent from the ceremony.
  • Instead of attending the Academy Awards, Penn was in Ukraine, where he has been a prominent supporter of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
  • Ukrainian Railways CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi presented Penn with a unique Iron Oscar statuette made from salvaged metal of a railcar damaged by Russia.
  • This special award was given to Penn as he had previously gifted one of his own Oscar trophies to President Zelensky following the 2022 Russian invasion.
  • Penn's absence from the Oscars was not unexpected, as he had also missed other awards ceremonies, including the Baftas, where he also won.
