Speaking to USA TODAY Sports at the Super Bowl last week, Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton insisted that quarterback Russell Wilson staying with the team in 2024 remains a possibility.
While that’s possible, it certainly doesn’t seem probable.
Wilson aired Denver’s dirty laundry after he was benched late in the season. Wilson told reporters in the team’s locker room that the club had previously threatened to bench him if he did not adjust his contract, and the NFLPA got involved. After that fallout, it’s hard to imagine Wilson playing for the Broncos again.
Denver coach Sean Payton expects a decision will be made on the quarterback’s future relatively soon.
“I think that decision will be sooner than later — he’ll know sooner than later,” Payton said during an interview with Adam Schein on “Mad Dog Sports Radio” at the Super Bowl last week.
"It is what it is."@SeanPayton talks to @AdamSchein about whether he took too much heat for the #Broncos QB situation with Russell Wilson & whether Wilson will be back next year.

Wilson’s $37 million salary for the 2025 season will become guaranteed on March 17, so the Broncos will undoubtedly make a decision before that deadline. That’s a little more than a month away. Not exactly right around the corner, but “soon” in comparison to the length of the NFL offseason.
We should have news on Wilson’s future within the next five weeks. Broncos Wire expects the QB to be released, and he could land with one of these teams.
