NFL oddsmakers have low expectations for the Denver Broncos going into the 2024 NFL season, giving the team an over/under win total of 5.5. That’s just the way coach Sean Payton likes it.
“I love being the underdog. The next time I only win six games in a season will be the first,” Payton said in a recent interview with Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune.
In the subscription story, Duncan detailed how Payton has carried elements of his time with the New Orleans Saints with him to Denver while also evolving in other areas.
Duncan wrote that Payton “looks and sounds like a kid on Christmas morning” after drafting quarterback Bo Nix and retooling the roster this spring. Duncan also noted that Payton is happy with the team’s ownership group and all the resources they have poured into the club, including stadium renovations, a brand new practice facility and Payton’s big contract.
With the backing of the Broncos’ ownership group, Payton aims to turn the franchise around the same way he turned the Saints around in New Orleans. The odds are stacked against him, just as Payton would want it.
