Sean Dyche explains what Everton must show and need in Bournemouth relegation decider

Sean Dyche believes it is important that his Everton side retain their "firm mentality" and has called on them to take care of their own business on Sunday afternoon.

Everton’s battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League will go to the last game of the season against Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

Yerry Mina’s 99th-minute leveller earned the Blues a point against Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out. And after Leeds United were beaten by West Ham United on Sunday afternoon and Leicester City were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle United on Monday night, it means Dyche’s men head into Sunday’s clash against the Cherries knowing a win will preserve their Premier League status.

Speaking after Saturday’s draw at Molineux, Everton boss Dyche claimed his team had shown a "fantastic mentality" to keep going the way they did, and he is hoping for more of the same this weekend.

He said: "The main thing for me is the mentality. I can’t enhance on that enough. We changed the shape three or four times in the second half [at Wolves], and we’re asking a lot of the players to keep changing.

"They were clear-minded, and they just kept going and going. We got what could be a big point, but we’ve got to reinforce that by going again this week."

Speaking to evertontv, Dyche continued: "When I became manager here, we wanted to connect with the fans. We wanted an on-pitch connection.

"I think they’re seeing everyone, from myself, the staff and the players, giving their lot. We’ve made some mistakes along the way, but I don’t think it’s a lack of effort.

"I think the commitment to the cause is evident, and the fans are playing their part. That’s the connection we want, and we’ll need that connection at home this week."

Before he concluded: "But it’s within us to take care of ourselves, and that’s what we’re going to do."
