Sean Cox has been inundated with warm wishes after making his return to Anfield more than two years after his last visit.
The dad-of-three made his return to Anfield after more than two years away for Liverpool's 2-0 win over Villarreal on Wednesday. He was welcomed back in "red carpet" style as he rubbed shoulders with Liverpool heroes such as Jurgen Klopp, Kenny Dalglish and Virgil van Dijk.
The Irishman suffered serious brain injuries when he was targeted in an unprovoked attack outside Anfield in April 2018 before Liverpool's Champion's League semi-final tie with Roma. Sean was left fighting for his life after the attack and has since undergone rehabilitation and continues to receive ongoing care from his wife and family in Dunboyne.

Following the Reds' win over the Spanish side, the Support Sean Cox Facebook page posted: "Sean was delighted to be back at Anfield for the first time in over two years to watch his beloved Liverpool FC’s 2-0 win against Villarreal. The 'red' carpet was rolled out for Sean and Martina by many of his LFC heroes, with Jürgen Klopp, Kenny Dalglish and Virgil van Dijk all dropping by to welcome Sean back to his happy place."
Since the ECHO reported on the visit, readers have shared their thoughts on the touching greeting that Sean received. Karen Day said: "Great news that he's back doing something he loves, god bless him."
