Sean Abbott seals Surrey return ahead of 2024 season

Australian star Sean Abbott will return to Surrey this summer as the reigning county champions continue to reassemble the attack that delivered last season’s title.

Abbott took 37 wickets as Surrey made it back-to-back Championship successes last year and also featured prominently in their run to the Vitality Blast semi-finals, scoring the joint-fastest hundred in the competition’s history off just 34 balls against Kent.

The 31-year-old is due to be available for four County Championship and eight Blast matches across May and June, and follows West Indies quick Kemar Roach in re-signing for the club.

However, Abbott’s spell at Kia Oval could be interrupted by the T20 World Cup, which starts in early June, should he be named in Australia’s squad. The seamer was part of the ODI squad that won last year’s World Cup in India, though he featured only once in the tournament.

“Last year at Surrey was brilliant and I knew straight away that I wanted to come back for 2024,” Abbott said. "The dressing room is one of the best I’ve been a part of and it’s no surprise that it led to success on the pitch.

“I’m buzzing to be coming back to join up with the team. I can’t wait to pull on the Three Feathers again and help the Club push for more success.”
