Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith suffered a knee injury in a blowout Week 15 primetime defeat to the Green Bay Packers. Smith exited the contest and was replaced by backup signal caller Sam Howell. Howell was ineffective, completing five-of-14 passing attempts for 24 yards and an interception.
Despite suffering the setback, Smith did not miss a single start. He quarterbacked the Seahawks in Sunday’s Week 16 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. Smith played a quality game, despite making a few mistakes, completing 31-of-43 passes for 314 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Though Smith showed few ill-effects of the knee injury, he admitted he’s playing through some pain when speaking with reporters on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s Week 17 game versus the Chicago Bears.
“No it’s not,” Smith responded when asked if the knee injury was behind him. “It’s going to be there for a while. But [I’ve] got to keep pushing,” Smith concluded.
Asked about his knee injury and if it’s behind him Smith said “no it’s not. It’s going to be there for a while. But got to keep pushing.”

Smith is a selfless leader that will start versus the Bears on Thursday Night Football. The Seahawks need their quarterback to be productive because they’re essentially facing potential elimination from postseason contention with a defeat. Smith will attempt to position the Seahawks for a win-and-in scenario (with help elsewhere) against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18.
