Seahawks injury updates: Jamal Adams, Geno Smith and more

The Seattle Seahawks earned a blowout win with a crushing defensive performance last night in prime time against the New York Giants. However, they also suffered several injuries to key players during the game.

After it was over, head coach Pete Carroll gave the beat reporters updates on a few of them. Here’s what we learned.

SS Jamal Adams

In the latest heart-breaker for Adams, he suffered a concussion on the team’s first defensive series last night, taking a knee to the helmet from Daniel Jones as he tackled him. Adams was obviously concussed and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. Carroll says he should be OK to come back after the bye week.

NT Jarran Reed

Nose tackle Jarran Reed also had to leave the game at one point with a leg injury. Carroll says he was kicked in the shin and it swelled up on him, but he should also be fine to come back after the bye.

QB Geno Smith

Their most-significant injury was to their starting quarterback. Geno Smith had to leave the game briefly in the second quarter after getting his legs rolled up under him on a sideline tackle by Isaiah Simmons. Smith returned in the second half though and didn’t appear to be too bothered. Carroll says he twisted his knee but it’s not serious.

G Damien Lewis, G Phil Haynes

The Seahawks also suffered injuries to their two starting guards. Phil Haynes re-aggravated a calf injury and Damien Lewis twisted his ankle.

Anthony Bradford replaced Haynes at right guard and earned high marks, while Evan Brown moved over to take Lewis’ place at left guard. Rookie Olu Oluwatimi replaced him at center.
