Screams were heard moments before swathes of police officers swooped on the Arndale centre on Tuesday evening, following reports of a young male armed with a knife. In chaotic scenes, a group of young males were forced to lie on the ground outside the Apple shop before arrests were quickly made.
Police were called to the shopping centre, in Manchester city centre, at around 5pm on Tuesday (October 25) to the concerning report, where they initially arrested four males for violent disorder. It was confirmed that no injuries were sustained in the incident.
Within minutes, the youths had been escorted away, before a fifth male was handcuffed outside the centre, near the Exchange Tram Stop, also on suspicion of violent disorder. A large number of officers initially responded with around half a dozen police vans and cars parked outside the mall's Exchange Square entrance.
