The lead singer of an emerging Scouse band has said their “crazy dream” has come true after it was announced that they would be performing at Glastonbury this year.
Stone are an indie-rock band, who played their first gig just over three years ago at The Shipping Forecast on Slater Street. As part of their recent UK tour, they performed in their hometown in April at the 02 Academy on Hotham Street.
Now, the band’s recent successes look set to continue, with frontman Fin Power announcing on Twitter this morning that they would be playing at the UK’s most famous music festival. They will be part of the BBC Music Introducing stage.

Wavertree-born Fin, who first visited Glastonbury aged five, said he was excited to show the rest of the band how “magical” the festival is. He said: “This is a crazy dream come true for us as a band and we can’t believe it really. When I was five years old I went to Glastonbury for the first time on a year when it rained and poured so badly that pretty much most of the festival was flooded.”
He added: “I remember crying loads and my mum made me carry a box of red wine so I could feel helpful. Little did I know I would be playing the same festival 18 years later that claimed my five year old tears and covered me in mud.”
Stone’s other members are Alex Smith, Sarah Surrage and Elliot Gill. Speaking to the ECHO earlier this year, Fin said they had achieved their hopes of a career in music after “grafting for seven years” through various different bands.
The group met through chance meetings at college and education. Soon after that first gig in town, they were embarking on karaoke-fuelled tours of Europe, supporting artists such as The Kooks in Portugal and Louis Tomlinson in Malaga.
Fin said: "I remember watching other bands do live tours and I envied them. I read once that it takes 20 years to become an overnight success, which rings true in our case.”
Their hits range from the politically-charged Money to the melancholic Save Yourself, with the band describing their genre of music as "post-apocalyptic scally rock". Stone's gigs, labelled as "vicious and beautiful" by Fin, have become well known among indie lovers. Their Liverpool performance earned a five star review from the ECHO.
Glastonbury 2023 will take place from June 21 to June 25. Fellow Scouser Jamie Webster will also be present at Left Field, with other confirmed acts including Lewis Capaldi, Lilzzo and Lana Del Rey.
