Hearts keeper Alexander Schwolow has been told he will only be a back-up keeper at Mainz.
The German shotstopper is leaving Tynecastle and will join Mainz at the start of next month after a year in Scottish football.
However, the 34-year-old has agreed to join the Bundesliga side knowing he will be on the bench with club legend Robin Zentner, who has been at the club for 12 years, remaining as their No.1 keeper.

Mainz manager Urs Fischer explained: "Robin will start as our goalkeeper. We discussed this with Alex. However, nobody has any guarantees. In the end, it all comes down to performances.
"We are delighted to bring him in. I worked with him at Union Berlin and he was impeccable. Many names were floating around in our heads and we considered them to varying degrees. And in the end, we had a very good feeling about Alex.
"He's a very pleasant, sensible character and we quickly clicked with him. He comes from the region and won't need any time to settle in."
