Scottish hotel on NC500 ranked among world’s best to visit in 2024

A BOUTIQUE hotel on the North Coast 500 has been featured in a prestigious list of the best hotels in the world to visit in 2024.

Lundies House in Tongue has been named by Condé Nast Traveller on their Gold List 2024.

The list, which is curated by the luxury travel magazine’s global editorial team, features a total of 75 different resorts and hotels from around the globe.

It includes a desert resort in Dubai and a £600 per-night hotel in Rio de Janeiro.

However, two Scottish locations also made it onto the list: Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire and Lundies House in the Highlands.

Conde Nast Traveller praised the “tranquil Scandinavian design” and “bespoke Scottish cabinetry” of Lundies House.

Critic Antonia Quirke said: “The thick stone walls of the 1842 former clergy house (Reverend Lundie was an early resident) are gorgeously bolstering.

“Here you’re swaddled from the temperature shifts of Scotland’s rocky Highland coastline.

“Lundies has achieved the holy grail of the small hotel: the atmosphere of an intimate country house that is as private or clubbable as the mood takes you.”

The hotel is owned by businessman and rewilding proponent Anders Holch Povlsen and his wife Anne, who are Scotland’s largest private landowners.

The magazine also described Gleneagles as “one of the world’s loveliest hotels for golfing, relaxing and exploring the bonny lands”.
