REPAIRS are underway to restore a harbour wall in Angus which was destroyed after it was battered by high tides and strong winds.
A chunk of a boundary wall at Arbroath Harbour wall next to Mackay Boatbuilders collapsed on Wednesday night after it was subjected to severe weather.
Work began on Thursday morning to clear the damage, with repairs due to start on Friday ahead of a yellow weather warning for strong wind forecasted for the weekend.
One onlooker told The Courier that the wall had been “obliterated” by the waves on Wednesday evening.
“The wall has been battered by huge waves overnight with the water piling over the seawall it stood no chance,” they said.
“The wall next to the shipbuilders has been obliterated to the ground in one section.
“Workers were clearing the site alongside contractors on Thursday morning.”
An Angus Council spokesperson said the harbour master had met with the contractors on Thursday morning to discuss the repair work.
They said: “Angus Council are aware of the damage caused to the boundary wall of Mackay Boatbuilders due to the large tide and strong winds last night at Arbroath Harbour.
“The Harbour Master met with the contractor this morning to discuss the repair work and clear-up work has already started.
“Work to rebuild the wall will start on Friday.”
