Scottish granny vows to keep old Corsa despite winning £100K supercar Porsche

A Scottish granny has won a supercar worth around £100,000 but despite this she has vowed to keep a hold of her Vauxhall Corsa.

The motor, which can reach 180mph, was won by Joanne McGuigan, 49, after she paid just £10 to enter the Omaze Million Pound House Draw. Gran-of-four, Joanne, thought it was “too good to be true” when she was informed that she had won the Porsche 911. She did not even bother to tell her car daft hubby Iain, 52, in fear she would get his hopes up.

However the ex-paediatric nurse had no reason to worry as she had in fact won the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe as an “Early Bird Prize” in the draw. But Joanne, from Fife, says that she still has no plans to part with her nippy Vauxhall Corsa VXR which is worth £10,000.

She said: “I'd just come in from work and saw an email from Omaze saying I'd won something. I thought it sounded too good to be true so I didn't even mention it to my husband when he came home, the Daily Record reports.

“Later that night I decided to check it again and was flabbergasted to find that my entry code did indeed match - and I'd genuinely won a Porsche! My husband was still dubious though and told me not to get my hopes up, but now the car is actually here I think he's finally convinced!

“I have never won anything before this so I'm still in shock to be honest. It's the first time I've ever been inside a Porsche and the car is absolutely stunning - after going for a spin I can safely say it's definitely quicker than my Vauxhall!"

Despite winning the iconic motor, Joanne says that they are planning on selling it and keeping a hold of their trusty little Corsa. While it can't quite compete with the Porsche's 3.0L, twin-turbo, six-cylinder engine and 0-62mph of just four seconds, her 1.6-litre Corsa can still produce a respectable 200bhp and takes seven seconds to reach 62mph.

Joanne, who recently started working as a training officer for home care through her local council, said: "As much as my husband would love to keep it, the money we'll get from selling it is life changing. We're going to sell it and use the money to pay off our mortgage - and treat our children and grandchildren."

Joanne paid just £10 for her winning entry as part of her Omaze Million Pound House Draw subscription and is hoping her good luck doesn't stop there. The main prize is a stunning £4,500,000 waterfront house in Cornwall - as part of Omaze's biggest ever prize draw, raising vital funds for Marie Curie.

It features a state-of-the-art kitchen and breakfast room, a striking cantilevered staircase, a yoga studio, multiple en-suites and its own private terrace. The grand prize winner will instantly become a multi-millionaire - as well as being given £100,000 in cash to go alongside the house.

The Cornwall II House Draw will support the end of life charity, Marie Curie, helping it provide care and support to more people affected by terminal illness. Omaze has guaranteed a minimum donation of £100,000 and has a target of at least £500,000.

Matthew Reed, Chief Executive at Marie Curie, said: "Every five minutes, someone in the UK dies without the care and support they need. This is heart-breaking for each person this happens to, and for the people who love them.

"We are delighted that Omaze shares our belief that everyone deserves the best experience possible at the end of life and has chosen to partner with us. This partnership will raise important funds and awareness so that Marie Curie can be there for more people with a terminal illness."

James Oakes at Omaze said: "We're honoured to be partnering with Marie Curie for our biggest ever house draw, in Cornwall. We're incredibly proud that the Omaze community has already raised £11,150,000 for good causes across the UK."
