THE Scottish Government is expected to announce energy bills financial support for those with terminal illnesses.
The help with electricity and gas costs is expected to be announced as part of the programme for government, which John Swinney will present at Holyrood when MSPs return from the summer recess on Tuesday.
The programme will set out a roadmap of the Scottish Government’s priorities for the rest of the parliamentary term until 2031.
People with terminal illnesses often face additional costs to run medical and mobility equipment in their homes.
Ahead of the programme, Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said the Scottish Government supported a campaign by the Sunday Mail newspaper.
Somerville said: “We promised at the election that we would help with the energy costs of people who need lifesaving equipment and those who are terminally-ill.
“The Sunday Mail and the people of Scotland backed that plan at the election and we will now deliver it in government.
“The programme for government turns our election pledges into government action and will commit the SNP Government to delivering this support.”
