Scottish Cup: Ayrshire band's new song snapped up by BBC Scotland for live coverage

Indie rockers The Frontiers have scored a winner with a major television broadcaster — ahead of a big night of Scottish Cup football action for the Ayrshire region.

Ayrshire Live can exclusively reveal the band's new single 'Life on Stage' has been snapped up by BBC Scotland as part of the soundtrack to their Scottish Cup TV coverage.

The band, who all hail from Ayrshire, will also take centre stage in the TV coverage ahead of Cumnock’s big Scottish Cup second round clash at home to Dumbarton on Friday, October 21.

Next Friday’s clash will be televised live on BBC Scotland — as the cameras roll into Townhead Park for a 7.45pm kick-off under the lights.

And the fixture will attract a huge crowd to Townhead Park — with Brian McGinty's side aiming up upset the odds.

And with Frontiers frontman Keir Mitchell being a hometown boy, he’s hoping the band’s presence on TV can inspire ‘Nock to a famous win.

Keir, 25, said: “We’ve been contracted by the BBC for our new song ‘Life on Stage,’ to be used in the opening montage and closing of the Scottish Cup matches on BBC Scotland, but especially for Cumnock’s match next Friday against Dumbarton.

“This will include a clip of us performing at Townhead Park and it’ll also include a band interview in the social club.

"Life on Stage has had a few spins on BBC Introducing and on the radio. I just think the BBC has picked up on it.

"And the fact that we're Cumnock boys, we're just excited to be opening up the programme with our music.

"This is a big game for the town — let's hope they can do it!

"We're big fans of Soccer AM and one of our goals was to write a song for them that could be used in their goals montage.

"We were laughing, thinking 'wouldn't that be a great goal to try to achieve' — this is just as good!

"This is taking us into the television world, which will be massive for us."

Since the release of Life on Stage, The Frontiers have started to gain notable attention and traction, especially in the USA, where radio stations in Boston and Washington DC gave the band some important airtime.

And the infectious three minute 24 second track is reaching even further afield — after the band successful gained inclusion onto Spotify's UK indie playlist.

Now the band has been given a further hoist with BBC Scotland including the new single in their Scottish Cup TV coverage.

It’s been a hectic time for the former Greenmill Primary and Cumnock Academy pupil Keir, who became a father for the first time earlier this year.

Keir, meanwhile, is looking forward to next week's cup clash.

He said: "We're all going to the game and I believe the coverage will be on in the social club, so we'll be watching ourselves.

"Hopefully, we'll get a spike in terms of the song being streamed on the likes of Spotify, Google Play and iTunes."

Admission to next Friday’s game is £10 for adults, £5 concessions, plus under-16s. Cash only.

The Frontiers consist of frontman Keir Mitchell, 25, and guitarist Ross Phillips, 24, from Cumnock, Kilmarnock drummer Paul Kelly, 20 and 22 year-old bass guitarist, James Campbell.

'Life on Stage' is available to steam/download on all major digital platforms.
