Scottish comedian Janey Godley reveals she is in end-of-life care for cancer

JANEY Godley is now in end-of-life care – with former first minister Nicola Sturgeon among those to send their love to the Scottish comedian.

Godley, 63, recently cancelled her autumn tour as she received ongoing treatment for terminal ovarian cancer.

In a new video posted on her social media channels, she confirmed that the chemotherapy she was receiving had run out of options.

Godley added that she did not know how long she had left – as she’s “no a TikTok”.

She said: “So, I’m now in palliative care, and I’m at end-of-life care now, in the hospital.

“The chemo ran out of options and I just couldn’t take anymore of it, and the cancer has spread, so it looks like this’ll be getting to near the end of it.

“And it’s really difficult to speak about this, and to say it to people.

“But again, I want to thank the NHS, the Scottish NHS, the Beatson, the Marie Curie, the Royal Infirmary, everybody from the doctors, the nurses, phlebotomists, the secretaries, cleaners, the people who wiped my room down, the surgeons, right down to the wee woman that holds my hand and makes my tea.

“It is devastating news to know that I’m facing end of life but we all come to an end sometime.

“I want to thank everybody for supporting my family, especially Ashley and my husband. The overwhelming support has been amazing.

“And I don’t know how long I’ve got left, before anybody asks. I’m no a TikTok. So I just want yous all to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me and all the support.

“Cancer affects one in two people and it’s affected me.

“So I hope yous all have a lovely Christmas – hopefully, I might be here, who knows … no a TikTok! But just want you to know that I’m sending all my love and support to everybody out there who is living with a life-limiting disease.

“And if you want to contact my agent, you can get it on my website, and that’s why we’ve had to cancel the tours.

“Thanks everybody for all your love and know that I really, really appreciate the outpouring of love and support that you’ve given me.

“And even the ones that hate me, thanks for giving me your engagement.”

People took to social media to share further messages of support for Godley.

Responding to the video, former first minister Sturgeon said: "Sending you so much love, my friend. You are an inspiration ❤️"

Sunday National columnist Ruth Wishart added: “Thinking of you, and all the joy you've brought to audiences everywhere. Lots of love. xx”

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson said: “Oh Janey, this is heartbreaking. Thank you for all you’ve given the world – and for being you.”

In 2023, Godley became the winner of the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
