Scottish city named Europe’s best sustainable tourism destination

A SCOTTISH city has been named Europe ’s best sustainable tourism destination.

Edinburgh has triumphed in the World Travel Awards, taking home the title as Europe’s leading sustainable destination for 2023.

The award recognised a number of efforts the city has made to reduce its carbon footprint, including promising to introduce measures to become more plant-based.

Edinburgh was nominated alongside the likes of Dubrovnik in Croatia and Pembrokeshire in Wales.

The winners were decided through a year-long voting campaign in which votes from members of the public carried a weighting of one while those from verified travel experts carried a weighting of two.

Edinburgh previously won awards for world's leading heritage city destination in 2022 and Europe’s leading destination in 2012.
