New research has revealed the top 10 most romantic city break destinations in the UK, and a Scottish city is included in the list.
According to luggage storage site Bounce, Edinburgh is the fifth most romantic city in the nation to escape to with a loved one. The Scottish capital is the only city in the country to appear on the list, coming in at number five.
Each city was given a 'Romantic City Break Score' out of 10, with Edinburgh receiving a rating of 6.63. The site praised the capital's "beautiful" scenery, though noted that its hotels were pricier than others on the list.
Bounce commented: "Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, is another city that perfectly lends itself to romance. The city is home to stunning architecture, beautiful backdrops, and secret spots which make for the perfect date. The imposing castle looming over the city also makes for a perfect photo opportunity.
"While its hotels are on the more expensive side, Edinburgh scored highly on almost every other metric, particularly its romantic activities per km2 (2.4) and Google searches (3,220 annual searches)."
Brighton came in first place, scoring highly for its large number of romantic restaurants and its affordability. The seaside city is known for its diverse community, vibrant music, and art scene.
Rounding out the top five are York, Bath, and Canterbury, which came in second, third, and fourth place respectively. Other cities to appear in the top 10 include Oxford, Manchester, and Liverpool.
To calculate each city's score, Bounce assigned an overall rating based on the following factors:
- Number of Romantic Activities
- Number of Romantic Restaurants
- Number of Romantic Hotels
- Hotel Cost (For a Two-Night Stay)
- Annual Searches (Dec 2021 - Nov 2022)
- Ranking
