Scottish Chambers names new international trade director to target global growth

The Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) has announced Seona Shand as its new international trade director.

She has more than a decade of experience in the field of international trade and brings practical experience of trading internationally, most recently serving as commercial director at the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.

Her new role will lead on the production of a new model of trade support services, maximising SCC’s international relationships with the global Chambers of Commerce network and other global businesses, governments and partners.

Shand will also provide capacity building and trade support within the SCC network, in order to deliver additional international support to the business community.

Liz Cameron, chief executive at the SCC, said: “With Seona’s unrivalled experience and connections, she will be leading on our values as a globally trusted and credible partner to promote our exporting potential to the world as well as attracting vital new investment into Scotland.”

Shand commented: “Having built an extensive global network over the years, with a particular focus on the energy and food and drink sectors, I’m looking forward to working with businesses the length and breadth of Scotland to support them with their international growth, driving economic development for the country.”

Shand was the commercial director at the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce for more than 12 years, leading on the events portfolio.

She has built a global network, particularly in the Middle East, Africa and Northern Europe, and has supported hundreds of businesses with their international growth.

Shand led on the annual Scotland Africa Oil & Gas forum and several inward and outward trade delegations working with international presidents, prime ministers and chief executives of national oil companies.

She has also previously served as chairman of her local community centre and board member of CLAN Cancer Support and currently supports a number of charitable organisations in an advisory role, as well as being a guest lecturer at the Robert Gordon University.
