Scottish Café awards announced- with some Edinburgh names appearing

The Scottish Café Awards are back again this year and some recognisable Edinburgh names are appearing on their roster of contestants.

This is the third Scottish Café awards, with the event beginning in 2019, it breaks down cafes across Scotland and awards them based on a variety of criteria.

There is a plethora of different metrics that the Scottish Café Awards breaks down into separate awards. In fact, there are more than 18 different awards up for grabs this year, with many of them featuring some well known Edinburgh venues.

These awards include café of the year, Customer Café of the year, Best Loved Café of the Year and even a Best of Edinburgh Category.

Each award is broken down into separate regions, with Edinburgh appearing in the SouthEast region.

But who are our finalists and what are they nominated for?

Coming in for Café of the Year, we have a few beloved Edinburgh venues: CJ’s Café, Corner Café and Linton and Co.

For Customers Café of the year we have Brew Lab Café, Naked Bakery, Tasty Buns Bakery, Ostara, L’Etoile Salon De Tea and The Tattie Lab Café.

For Best Loved Café of the Year only one Edinburgh location has been nominated: The La Viola Café and Bistro.

For Best of Edinburgh, there are 10 cafés nominated: Bad Tempered Bakery, Edinburgh Larder, Southern Cross Café, Gilmerton Bridge Café, Cactus Café, Café Marmalade, Café Vigo, Coro the Chocolate Café, MimiseBakeHouse and Miro’s.

There is a wealth of other awards this year and we have only highlighted a few. You can see the rest of the awards at the Scottish Café Awards website.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, June 27 at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow to announce the winners.

Posting on their website, the organisers say:

“Coffee is the most popular drink worldwide and the trade values billions of pounds.

“As a result, the Scottish Café industry has seen a massive growth over the past few years with many new coffee shops entering the sector, increasing the competition.

“This ceremony aims to acknowledge those who have played a great role in making this sector one of the most profitable industries in this country.

“We would like to congratulate everyone for being shortlisted and we wish all the finalists the best of luck.”
