A SCOTTISH bar believes it has been the target of far-right supporters after a milkshake was thrown at an anti-fascism mural.
BLOC+ in Glasgow city centre posted on social media an image of two people carrying a milkshake and said the bar "got its first milkshaking this weekend, courtesy of the far right".
The drink was thrown at signage on the bar which states, "Not for Everyone", with the logo of anti-fascism movement Antifa, short for "anti-fascist". It is a loose affiliation of mostly far-left activists.
The mural was put up in response to the August far-right riots in England and Northern Ireland.
One of the people can be seen on CCTV filming the act and it is believed a video has been posted online or it was livestreamed.
The bar wrote: "Bless their wee hearts, they left the receipt on the cup and it seems they went all the way to Maccy Ds just for the ammo. Not even a small fries for carbs for the sprint down Bath Street."
Managers have requested that if anyone sees the video, to send it to them, adding, "hope we look good on camera". A rubber duck was also found inside the cup, potentially a reference to a social media post about "Milkshake Duck".
Manager Chris Cusack told The National he suspected it was far-right supporters based on the act which has become synonymous with the movement and figures such as Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
During a campaign walkabout in Newcastle in 2019, Farage had a banana and salted caramel milkshake thrown at him, and in 2024, he was targeted again outside a pub in Clacton-on-Sea.
“Milkshaking” – the act of dousing public figures in milkshake – was officially recognised by the Collins Dictionary in 2019.
Cusack added: "I think if you take a stance on anything you expect to have a bit of pushback but that's why it's important to do.
"We put that image up in August when the riots were happening to show that nothing like that is welcome in our bar and to say that no matter a person's colour, background, creed, they are welcome.
"They've obviously seen it and it's been enough for them to get riled up and make a full of themselves in public."
The bar on Bath Street recently won Independent Bar of the Year at a ceremony hosted by Scottish Licensed Trade News.
