Bosses at South Ayrshire Council say they are "optimistic" about staging a "brand-new" airshow next year.
Officials are working on a programme of events based around a September flying spectacular.
Ayrshire Live understands a significantly-increased commercial presence would support any returning event backed by the council.
Earlier this summer, Ayrshire Live how the council's new administration had made re-establishing the airshow one of their key priorities.
The event last flew in 2019 before a major fall-out between organisers and council chiefs over funding.
A highly-public spat followed a row over payment of £80,000 by the council, which officials later claimed they had made "in error".
Airshow organisers insisted the payment was a key advance on the council’s agreed £250,000 grant support but the row led to the event collapsing in 2020.
However, the event – established in 2014 and a highlight of the South Ayrshire calendar – could now be set for a dramatic return.
Council officers are developing proposals for an aviation display in the skies above Ayr shorefront, plus a range of entertainment on the Low Green.
A report outlining proposals for the new event will be taken to the council in due course.
Council leader Martin Dowey said: “I’m excited about the prospect of bringing a brand-new event which will include an airshow to South Ayrshire and I’m sure local people and businesses will be too.
“The event will undoubtably attract visitors from far and wide and put the area on the map, helping to boost our profile as a tourist destination.
“I’m keen to move forward with arrangements as quickly as possible and we’re currently working on procuring a strategic partner to help us get this thrilling event off the ground.”
