Scottish actress Karen Gillan is to star in another blockbuster - this time as an aimless millennial who confronts her mother's early-onset of Alzheimer's.
She will appear opposite Margaret Sophie Stein, Jermaine Fowler, Kevin Nealon and Talia Balsam in the Lisa Steen-directed comedy 'Late Bloomers'.
Filming has wrapped in Brooklyn, New York.
The film written by Anna Greenfield is loosely based on her experience living in Brooklyn in her 20s.
Deadline Holywood said the plot centres on Louise (Gillan), an aimless millennial who drunkenly breaks her hip, landing her in physical therapy.
There, she makes an elderly Pole (Stein) who speaks no English. And it's this unlikely friendship that gives her the courage to face what she's been running from all along- her mother's early-onset of Alzheimer's.
Fowler plays Louise's Craigslist roommate/landlord Brick, with Nealon and Balsam as her parents.
Late Bloomers marks the feature directorial debut of Greenfield's frequent collaborator, Steen.
The pair previously worked together on the short films Sundowners and Stepdaddy, which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and the 2019 SXSW Film Festival, respectively, as well as the shorts Games for Girls and New Adult.
Gillan is an award-winning actress known around the world for her character Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and other Marvel projects.
She's also known for her role as Ruby Roundhouse in Sony's recent pair of Jumanji films, and as Amy Pond over three seasons of Doctor Who.
She can currently be seen in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder and will next appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
Late Bloomers also marks the first feature for Barreto and Feltner's production company We're Doin' Great, which is based in Los Angeles.
Earlier this year Gillan followed in the footsteps of Sir Billy Connolly, Sir Sean Connery, Brian Cox and Alan Cumming by leading the Tartan Day parade through the heart of New York City.
Gillan was only the second woman to be handed the honour in the history of the event after KT Tunstall led the parade in 2018.
Sir Billy was the last Scot to be handed the honour of being the event's "Grand Marshall" when the parade was last held in 2019.
The event has been staged in the heart of New York City since 1999 - the year after the United States Senate agreed to designate a national Tartan Day each April.
Gillan, who has lived in the United States for most of the past decade, also enjoyed success with the Inverness-set feature film The Party's Just Beginning, which she wrote, directed and starred in.
But the actress has admitted she has not been taken in by the delights of Los Angeles.
"Los Angeles isn't my favourite city," the Inverness-born actress, 34, told Daily Mail's Richard Eden. "Some people absolutely love the lifestyle there, but I'm ginger, stay out of the sun, and I'm not a huge outdoorsy person."
