Scottie Scheffler hailed as a ‘truly amazing guy’ after act of sportsmanship at Presidents Cup

  • World number one Scottie Scheffler demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship by conceding a 30-foot par putt to Nico Echavarria during their Presidents Cup singles match after a fan disrupted Echavarria's tee shot on the 14th hole.
  • The spectator shouted mid-swing, causing the Colombian debutant to drop his driver and hit his tee shot far to the right, prompting Scheffler to immediately confront the fan by declaring there was no place for such behaviour in golf.
  • After Echavarria played his pitch over the back of the green, Scheffler conceded his opponent's long par putt before missing his own birdie attempt, resulting in the hole being halved.
  • Echavarria praised Scheffler as a class act and a “truly amazing guy”, while Scheffler expressed deep frustration over spectators interfering during shots, stressing that competitors deserve silence and respect when preparing to play.
  • Scheffler ultimately secured a 2-and-1 victory in the singles match, helping the United States team secure a 17-13 overall victory at the Presidents Cup.
