Scottie Scheffler ‘can’t put into words’ Masters victory after securing first major win

Scottie Scheffler was as composed as ever even after winning the Masters by three shots to win the first major of his career.

The world number, who until two months ago had not won the PGA Tour, now has four victories on his record and secured the Green Jacket with a dominant weekend display at Augusta National.

It was slightly nervy start from Scheffler, who had a three-shot lead going into Sunday but had then reduced to just a single shot two holes into the round. He left himself with a difficult chip on the third which he superbly holed and barely looked back from that moment onwards.

The 25-year-old has lifetime exemption to the Masters to look forward to after his win, though he’s unlikely to be relying on that for quite some time.

“The shot on three was not one I expected to go in, it didn’t change the complexion of the day but it definitely got things rolling for me and I played some good golf after that,” Scheffler said.

“I can’t put into words what it means to be able to come back here for a lifetime. We’re going to go home and celebrate a little bit.

“I’m kind of glad I had a little hiccup on the last hole that made me a little less emotional so I can get through this interview!”

Scheffler rarely shows much emotion on the course and was calm throughout the week, the only blip when he broke out into a laugh after four-putting the final hole.

When asked what he plans on doing after the win, his priorities were relatively low-key.

He said: “I want to go home! I’m pretty tired right now - I’m really at a loss for words right now.

“I can’t thank my family enough - they’ve made many sacrifices over the years. To have the honour of winning the tournament and to have my family with me was incredible.”
