Scott Wright opens up on Rangers to Birmingham transfer

Scott Wright has lifted the lid on his decision to leave Rangers for Birmingham City.

The winger, 27, made the £300,000 switch from the Scottish Premiership to League One on transfer deadline day last Friday.

He scored on his debut for the Blues as he scored in the dying embers of a 2-1 victory over Wigan on Saturday afternoon.

And after three-and-a-half years spent at Ibrox, Wright insists it was a 'no brainer' to take on a new challenge in his career.

Wright told Birmingham Live: “I was getting game time at Rangers but I just felt like it was time for a new challenge for me. Once I had spoken to them it was a no brainer.

"Coming and being part of this project and this journey was something that really interested me. I signed on the Friday and it came up on Tuesday or Wednesday, so it really moved at a fast rate, but after having conversations with my family and my wife we thought it was going to be the right step for me.”

Wright's goodbye message to Rangers read: "I look back at my time with Rangers with such fond memories. I had moments and experiences I could only have dreamed of as a young boy.

"Thank you to everyone at the club behind the scenes and all of my team-mates that have been apart of my journey. I want to thank Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard for bringing me to this club, and all of my previous managers I’ve worked under during my time there.

"I want to wish Phil and the boys nothing but the best of luck for this coming season. The same goes for supporters who back the team with the same passion week in, week out. It’s been an honour."
