Scott Brown has reportedly "won the race" to become new Fleetwood Town boss.
Record Sport exclusively revealed last week that the Celtic legend had officially hung up his boots and was on the hunt for a first role in management.
The 36-year-old was soon linked with the vacant post at the EFL League One club.
And now the Daily Mail report Brown has emerged as Fleetwood's preferred candidate and is set to be appointed next week.
The report also states the 36-year-old former Parkhead captain declined the chance to present the Premiership trophy to successor Callum McGregor.
Ex-Celtic midfielder Stephen Crainey is currently in temporary charge of the Highbury side.
Livingston boss David Martindale and another former Celtic captain, Gary Caldwell, were also named as candidates.
This season, Brown operated as player-coach under Stephen Glass at Aberdeen and was also named skipper at Pittodrie.
But the arrival of Jim Goodwin marked the end of his short Dons tenure with the new manager intent on shaping his own backroom team.
