Scott Brown reveals SPFL transfer raid plans as Celtic legend gets to work at Fleetwood

Scott Brown reveals SPFL transfer raid plans as Celtic legend gets to work at Fleetwood

SCOTT BROWN has revealed that he plans to raid the Scottish transfer market after taking over as manager of Fleetwood.

Brown last week announced the end of a 19-year playing career in which he won 22 domestic trophies with Celtic, whom he left at the end of last season to take up a player-coach role at Aberdeen.

Capped 55 times by Scotland, Brown left Pittodrie following the departure of manager Stephen Glass in February and is now set to embark upon his first managerial role with Sky Bet League One Fleetwood.

And speaking during his first media day as boss, Brown revealed that his knowledge of the Scottish game could help in the upcoming transfer window.

He told Sky Sports: "We've got great recruitment staff here who have sent us a lot of players. There's a lot of players coming out of contract and we are quite weak down our left-hand side.

"I know the Scottish market very well too and there are a lot of players coming to the end of their contracts there too.

"Hopefully we can force one of those deals through very soon."

He continued: “I’m delighted to have been named head coach at Fleetwood Town. It’s a great opportunity at a really exciting club.

“I’ve always had a real desire to move into management and can’t wait to meet the players and staff and get started.

“The hard work starts now – I’m now looking forward to getting on to the grass.”
