Scott Arfield paid an emotional tribute to a family member who passed away before this afternoon's Scottish Cup semi-final.
The Rangers midfielder sprang from the bench and scored before dedicating his strike to his sister-in-law and her family after her papa passed away pre-match.
He took time in his post-match interview to pay tribute and send his wishes and thoughts to the family after the match.
Arfield's goal put Rangers level against Celtic after Greg Taylor had opened the scoring before a Carl Starfelt own goal in extra time gave the Ibrox side the win.
And speaking to Premier Sports, he said: “I just want to say that this morning my sister-in-law lost her papa and he was a big Rangers man so I just want to dedicate that to her side of the family and hope they are alright.”
Arfield played a big part in the victory and was delighted to be involved as he admitted these are the occasions you join Rangers for.
Ironically, Arfield was actually on the pitch the last time Rangers won the Scottish Cup when his Falkirk side were beaten by a Nacho Novo wonder striker in 2009.
And he joked that his goal all came thanks to a poor touch from Kemar Roofe but promised fans they wouldn't underestimate the challenge of Hearts in the final.
He said: “It feels really good. It’s been a long time coming since we’ve been in this position.
“That was one hurdle we’ve got over and there’s another one in the 21st of May and it sets us up to win as many trophies and competitions as we can.
“You always are no matter what. It’s extra special when it’s this sort of game, in this arena so you want to play your part. Thankfully Kemar took a bad touch and I go the goal.
“It’s always amazing. It’s always a great occasion to play against Celtic. It’s what attracts you to these two clubs, this sort of game. It’s amazing and we’re all extremely excited to meet Hearts in the final.
“We watched that game yesterday and we won’t underestimate them. We’ll get them in the last game of the season and then again a week later.
“It’s a fantastic occasion for us but it’s only one obstacle and we’ve got another one on the 21st of May.”
“It was amazing. I think it showed you the intensity when the Celtic boys were pulling up with cramp. Four days before this game we had extra time in the quarter final in the Europa.
“It just shows we live right and we’re always ready to go.”
