Nestled high on the cliffs above Kinghorn in Fife - Pettycur Bay Holiday Park is one of Scotland’s biggest and most iconic caravan sites.
The family run park, which has breathtaking panoramic views across the Firth of Forth, has always been a jewel in the Kingdom of Fife’s crown.
But after becoming the focus of hit BBC documentary series - The Bay - Pettycur has gained celebrity status and is now one of the nation’s most popular holiday destinations.
So when I was asked if I would like to try out one of their caravan breaks with my family I jumped at the chance and we weren’t disappointed - cue an awesome weekend doon the watter.
We arrived on site on the Friday and spent the evening settling into our comfortable 4 star mobile home and enjoying a great wee chippy from the Links Fish Bar in Burntisland.
For once, the boys forgot about their devices and sat glued to the window watching the ships and tugs going up and down the Forth and the sun going down over Edinburgh Castle just across the Firth.
The views the next morning were even more spectacular and we had to prise both the kids and our dogs away for a walk and a kite-flying session on beautiful Kinghorn beach.
Pettycur’s prime location means the park is surrounded by great places to visit and we opted for a trip into Dunfermline where we fed the squirrels in Pittencrieff Park and had a keek round the magnificent Abbey.
After a picnic lunch in The Glen we headed back to the site where the kids spent an afternoon in their Oasis Leisure Centre, splashing about in the pool and playing games in the arcade.
Dinner in the park’s 80 seater Horizon’s Restaurant turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay - the food was incredible and the staff were both friendly and great craic.
Stuffed to the gunnels with fabulous fayre, we headed upstairs to the Images function suite, where a cabaret was in full swing. After a few juices it was back to the caravan for a games night.
Sunday morning saw us all up with the lark for a skite along Burntisland beach and a walk along the Fife Coastal Path to Aberdour before refuelling with a fry-up in the Waterfront Lounge Bar.
After another dip in the pool and a play in the park it was time to pack up and say our goodbyes but as it turned out, our wee holiday wasn’t over quite yet.
Pettycur sponsor local ice hockey team - the Fife Flyers - and they arranged for us to go and watch their clash against Coventry Blaze.
It was one of the best sporting events we have attended as a family and I’m now mum to two shinty players who are dying to have a hurl on the ice. Me thinks season tickets might be on the cards.
The Fife Flyers’ last minute victory was a triumphant ending to our awesome weekend away - Pettycur Bay deserves it’s new found fame. It was our first stay at the resort and it certainly won’t be our last.
