A Dunblane theatre group who last week broke the world record for the fastest ever production topped it off by being mentioned live on a top American talk show hosted by James Corden.
Last week, we told how Rubber Chicken Theatre were celebrating after setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest ever theatrical production.
A cast and crew of around 200 set the new record in a time of just 9 hours 59 minutes and 3 seconds from opening a mystery script to performing on stage.
They took part in the crazy challenge at Stirling’s Macrobert Arts Centre on Sunday, February 20.
The group performed the hit sci-fi musical ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’ to a packed auditorium, after just less than 10 hours of rehearsals.
To top the achievement off, the Gavin and Stacey actor, who now hosts The Late Late Show on American TV channel CBS, gave the production a mention in recognition of the achievement.
On the episode, that aired last Thursday in the US, Corden said: “Did everybody hear about this? A Scottish theatre company just set a new Guinness World Record. The company opened a box of mystery scripts and then staged a full musical in just nine hours 59 minute and three seconds.”

He joked: “We make a TV show from scratch every single day, [it} doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.”
He continued: “It does help that the performance was Scottish, because no-one really knows if you got a line wrong.”
He then went on to give his impression of the production in an inaudible Scottish accent.
Pamela Mackie, Creative Director of Rubber Chicken Theatre, said: “It’s incredibly strange seeing yourself pop up on something as huge as The Late Late show with James Corden – to think that our wee performing arts family has been mentioned on a show that gets a million viewers is just crazy. Although I take issue with his go at Scottish accents! For Forbidden Planet we were all in our best American accent anyway.”
