Scots singer Kevin McGuire teams up with George Bowie for Cash for Kids fundraiser

Scots singer Kevin McGuire is aiming to fill the dance floor as well as the coffers of a worthy charity with his latest offering.

After trying out a new sound with song Wagon Wheel, the Scots country singer songwriter has teamed up with DJ George Bowie to create the “ultimate festive banger” and raise a bit of cash for good causes to boot.

A George Bowie remix of new song Wagon Wheel has just been released and is rocketing up the Scottish charts - and Kevin reckons he’s very grateful for the opportunity.

Kevin said: “I’m so grateful for any opportunity to not only work with George but to also help out such a great cause.

“I’ve grown up with the Cash for Kids campaign and all the incredible work that’s done.

“So to be able to do my bit is fantastic. Hopefully we can raise a few quid no matter what happens!”

The project came about when the Glasgow musician decided to try something different.

After years of frustration and battling against a lack of opportunity – because the big country stars are American and bring their own support acts when they come to the UK– the determined singer has fused together his love of pop, country and electronica.

It was a highlight of Kevin's career to perform with Johnny Mac and the Faithful ahead of Rod Stewart's set at the Glasgow Hydro (Gemma Leigh Laming)

Another single - A Little Sun - is a collaboration with legendary Scots musician John McLaughlin, who sent Wagon Wheel over to his good pal, GBX legend George, and the rest became history.

“Working with George has been incredible. I think because the enthusiasm for the project is completely mutual, and I think that’s rare to find,” Kevin said.

He added: “I think we’re over 50k streams across the board in just a couple of weeks. The response has been unbelievable. Having people phone in the radio every week now and request your track is a brilliant feeling.

“It definitely is the ultimate festive banger. I’ve been sent so many videos already from DJs and friends at parties with it on, and seeing how people react tells me it’s one that really brings the party vibe.

“As well as Wagon, George is working on a cheeky remix of A Little Sun, and we are talking about so many other plans it’s exciting.”

Of course while Geo is the new secret weapon, having a man like John McLaughlin in your corner is going to help any artist – writer of hits for Westlife, Girls Aloud, Busted and anyone else you care to mention, as well as more recently Rod Stewart.

And it was John’s connection that led Kevin to have one of the most “incredible” moments of his career last weekend, when he got to perform to a packed crowd at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro before Sir Rod Stewart took to the stage.

Kevin was invited up to join John as part of his group Johnny Mac and The Faithful, who were providing support for the Sailing rocker, who is an old pal of Johnny's.

Kevin said: "Performing at the Hydro was absolutely incredible, a real highlight of not just my career but my life."
