A Scots Ryanair flight has declared a mid-air emergency this morning. The FR5580 plane was travelling from Edinburgh to Alicante in Spain when a 7700 squawk code was issued.
The code signals an emergency onboard. Worried Scots took to social media to raise the alarm while the tracker website flightradar24 appeared to show the flight diverting.
One person said on Twitter: "Ryanair flight FR5580/RYR3EV (737) flying from Edinburgh to Alicante has declared an emergency and appears to be descending to land. #7700".
The flight departed Edinburgh at 7:39am UK time and is due to land in Alicante at 11:20 local time. The nature of the emergency is so far unclear.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: "The flight from Edinburgh to Alicante (02 July) initially alerted Bordeaux Airport that it would divert here due to an unwell passenger. The passenger recovered in the meantime however, there was no requirement to divert, and the flight continued safely to Alicante.”
