Scots rugby legend Kenny Logan reveals 'huge shock' after cancer diagnosis

Stirling rugby icon Kenny Logan has revealed he is battling against prostate cancer.

The former Scotland international revealed his “huge shock” at the diagnosis.

Ex-Stirling County player Logan, who was born in the city, was given the worrying news back in February.

In a social media post from his wife, TV presenter Gabby Logan, on Tuesday morning the couple revealed that the 50-year-old is recovering well after opting to have his prostate removed and claims he is “95 per cent back to normal” since he went under the knife three months ago.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast News earlier that same day, he said: “It’s hard because when you’re told you’ve got cancer - I literally fell over.

“I didn’t see it coming, no symptoms whatsoever, I had to go looking for it.”

Logan represented his country 70 times, scoring 220 points, between 1992 and 2003. His club career saw him star for County from 1989 until 1997, winning the Scottish Championship with the Bridgehaugh club. He later went on to play for London Wasps and London Scottish.

“I went to get a wellness check,” he told BBC Breakfast News presenter Sally Nugent.

“I sat down with the guy and he said ‘Everything’s fine, your hormones are fine, but your PSA (prostate-specific antigen) is high’.

“I said ‘What does that mean?’ He said ‘It’s to do with your prostate, you should probably get checked’.

“So I got checked and very quickly within about three or four months I had a biopsy and they said there’s something there but we’ll just keep an eye on it.

“The big figure he said to me was ‘40 per cent of your mates have got this and they just don’t know they’ve got it.’

“And this year, February 7, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer which was a huge shock.”

“I had to make some decisions, three decisions,” he added.

“One – do you go for radiotherapy, take it out, or brachytherapy. So I decided to take it out.

“I’m now three months since the operation, had the prostate out, I’m probably 95 per cent back to normal. I’m extremely lucky.”

Following the TV appearance, Gabby took to Twitter to say: “Very proud of @KennyLogan wanting to share his experiences this year.

“For all of you blokes who are of a certain age, don’t wait for symptoms. Go get checked.”
