Scots puppy faces losing leg after dog 'viciously flung her around like soft toy' in park

A Scots puppy was mauled by a 'vicious' dog after it gripped her by it's teeth and flung her around 'like a soft toy' in a Motherwell park.

Seventeen-week-old Peaches faces losing her leg after it was left 'hanging' when a large dog attacked her whilst she was out walking in Strathclyde Park at around 2pm yesterday.

Hannah Miller was walking the adorable French Bulldog when it walked past the other dog.

Peaches was heard yelping in pain when it pounced on her before he began wrestling with her in his mouth.

Hannah, who was caring for puppy Peaches and sister Pepper for her brother Fraser at the time of the incident, said she has been left traumatised by what happened.

Speaking to the Record, the 29-year-old said: "It was horrendous. I honestly thought she was going to be torn to shreds by the time I got her from out of his mouth.

"The dog was so vicious. He grabbed Peaches by it's teeth and was throwing her around like a soft toy. She was yelping and screaming.

"Even it's owner looked frightened to go near his mouth. If she was knew he was dangerous he should have been wearing a muzzle. It was bad enough that happened to a dog but what if he done this to a child."

Peaches suffered an extremely complex double fracture of her elbow and needs urgent surgery. The family have been advised that the surgery might not be successful and she still could be facing amputation.

She also has two puncture wounds on her abdomen from where the dog picked her up. These had to be cleaned and stapled back together.

Hannah, from Burnside, was also bitten by the dog when she began struggling with it to save Peaches.

She claimed the dogs weren't interacting prior to the attack.

She added: "It wasn't like Peaches approached him. We were just walking past and the next minute he grabbed her. It all happened so fast.

"When I tried to get Peaches away from him he bit me on my arm. I had blood all over my face. I think he must have scratched me there too."

Hannah claims the dog's owner left straight after the attack and she now has no way of contacting her.

Peaches owner Dionne McKeown has now set-up a Gofundme page to help raise awareness of what happened and to help cover the costs of the her vet bills, which they believe will amount to around £4,500.

The 23-year-old wrote: "’I'm fundraising to help pay for my 17 week old puppies operation to save her leg. She is only young and we haven’t gotten round to getting her insured like my older dog yet.

"We are just heartbroken at what has happened.

"She is the most confident playful puppy you could wish for.

"She is very well socialised as she goes to doggy day care twice a week with all different sized dogs and it would never have crossed her mind that this dog was going to do what it did to her.

"We just hope it doesn’t change her amazing nature and she is back to full health with the help of this surgery."

"We would be grateful for any donation at all every little helps."
