Peterhead is set to take a starring role once again on the small screen as the prison drama Screw returns to Channel 4.
The Scottish prison museum was used as a location for external shots in series one of the programme - which was broadcast in January 2022 - however, filming was expanded in December last year reports Aberdeen Live.
The prison, dubbed the Hate Factory by many, was previously transformed into a museum and has become a major attraction in the Blue Toon since the jail closed 10 years ago.
The museum recently shared an image of the production crew at the prison during the first series which saw hundreds of individuals eager to find out what was being filmed.
Filming for the second series of Screw - featuring Nina Sosanya and Derry Girls star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell - began in November with a custom-made cell block created at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall.
And much to the delight of the museum's operations director Alex Geddes, Peterhead was utilised to offer a truly authentic prison experience.
He told Aberdeen Live: "The team had used Peterhead previously for the first series of Screw which was a big success. They used external shots that time.
"This time they've taken both internal and external shots of the prison to make it more authentic. When we closed in December for filming, everybody knew what it was straight away. The image we put up on social media was just a little teaser from previously.
"We have to be careful with what we can say but we were made aware that the show is coming back soon. We've had film crews come up before but they were absolutely the best we've had so we were absolutely delighted to have them back."
In recent years, the museum encountered tough times but received a huge boost from the community after making its troubles public.
The five-star attraction has also received further broadcast interest since the Screw crew returned to the northeast.
Alex added: "It certainly gets the museum out there. For us, it's great to have them back because there was in the range of 200 to 250 people coming up, staying in hotels, using shops and restaurants so it's not just about us it's about the town.
"It would be great to have a series three of Screw and there has been some further interest about another project which is in its very early stages."
