A Scottish TV and Radio presenter was left a little confused by a sight that greeted her on a recent trip to the northeast. BBC Scotland broadcaster Joy Dunlop was passing through Cullen when she spotted a psychedelic dinosaur head towering over the seaside town's shops.
Bemused, she immediately took to Twitter to try and get some answers. Posting on her own page, she wrote: "Calling all Cullen locals - what’s the story behind the dinosaur head on the top of this building?"
She then shared an image of what appears to be a vibrant multi-coloured Tyrannosaurus Rex head poking up from the roof of a series of shops.
One person responded: "This made me chuckle. What is the story behind this?"
While another offered a pun on the town's most famous export, quipping: "A dinosaur? In Cullen? Aren’t they ex-skink?"
It turns out a local Antiques Centre and Salvage Yard is responsible, Rosie Henderson who is manager at The Outlet explained that they discovered the dinosaur head a few years back, and it had come from a fairground but that it was in "poor condition".
She added: "We had it transported up to Cullen and had it fully restored and decorated by a local artist. The head was decorated in bright happy colours…. making it a friendly dinosaur and not scary!"
Rosie added that the head is actually for sale and not a permanent fixture, she said: "We thought it would look good and bring a smile to people's faces when they were passing if we mounted it onto the roof of one of our buildings. Most people love it, especially the children."
Although it's still for sale, we are sure locals and visitors alike will love seeing it whenever they make their way through the town.
