Scots mum 'slaughtered' for accent on Jimmy Carr game show and admits she may miss TV debut

An Irvine mum will make her big TV debut tomorrow night alongside Jimmy Carr.

Carmen Thomson is set to star alongside the comic on the game show I Literally Just Told You but has admitted she might miss the Channel 4 programme's live broadcast.

The 26-year-old is jetting off on a hen do tomorrow and the flight times mean she may be forced to watch it on a catch-up service.

Carmen told Ayrshire Live : "I can't believe how this has all worked out. I have a hen do in Benidorm with all my pals this weekend and we're literally landing at the back of 7. So we're going to chuck all our cases in and try and convince a pub to show it!"

Contestants on the show are quizzed on things that have happened during the programme to win £25,000.

And host Jimmy Carr didn't hold back, with Carmen saying the comic slaughtered her for her accent but also paid her a huge compliment.

Carmen added: "It was totally different from what I expected. I thought there was going to be a laugh button for the audience but there was a real audience there all waiting.

"It was really good fun. It really was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

"I got slaughtered to bits for my accent. I went in there with the biggest, boldest Scottish accent you've ever heard. I don't know If I'll need subtitles!

"Jimmy Carr said that I need to take it as a compliment because he thinks that I can take that patter and said that I wasn't to think he was picking on me.

"He basically said I belong on the telly."

Carmen was asked to appear on Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow - Strike it Lucky and the producer from that show passed on her details to the makers of I Literally Just Told You.

Carmen joked: "I was basically scouted. I feel like a fitba' player.

"The next thing I knew I was in London for the filming.

"They paid for all my expenses and everything and got me down to London on a Friday in August and filmed all day on the Saturday from around 10 in the morning to 5 at night and then back home on the Sunday.

"It was brilliant, what an experience.

"The game is all based on memory and you don't know anything about the other contestants but when we were all standing together in the studios, me being me I went up and said 'Hi i'm Carmen' and I was trying to blab away and the woman had to come up and tell me I wasn't allowed to speak to the other contestants!

"The studio was next to This Morning, Loose Women, Davide and Ekin-Su [Love Island] were kicking about and there was people singing up and down the corridors. It was mental walking past people that I watch on TV in everyday life.

"We had her own dressing rooms and we were treated so well."

The experience was so good, Carmen says she's keen to do more things on TV in the future.

She said: "I would love to do stuff along the lines of Still Game or Chewin' the Fat. A sitcom or something like that; that's what I'd absolutely love to do. I'm not to sure about the game show side of things!"

The second series of I Literally Just Told You starts tomorrow night (Friday, September 30) at 10pm on Channel 4 or on My4 afterwards.
